Where each feature works

This page shows where each part of Tovari works: on a PC or Mac, in a phone browser, and in the Tovari mobile app. The three are not identical.

Where can I use Tovari?

In three places.

On a PC or Mac, in your browser. The full web app, with the left-hand navigation. This is the widest version of Tovari.

On a phone, in your browser. The same web app, opened on a phone. It rearranges itself into a bottom tab bar (Home, Accounts, Budget, Bills and Reports) with a menu, a bell and a help control in the header, and full-screen sheets, and it deliberately leaves out a few screens that need room to be useful. You can switch to the PC or Mac layout at any time with View desktop site at the bottom of Settings, which you open from the menu at the top left; Back to the phone layout in the PC or Mac layout switches back, and signing out also returns you to the phone layout.

In the Tovari mobile app. The app you install on your phone. It is a separate app, not the website in a wrapper, so it has its own screens — and, in a few places, its own names for things. On Android it also runs on tablets and foldable phones: on a tablet or an unfolded foldable it turns with the device and works in split screen, while on a phone it stays upright. On iPhone it stays upright.

In the mobile app and a phone browser, adding an account opens the Add account sheet — Connect a bank first, then a manual account — and editing one opens the Edit account sheet, which saves when you tap Save and also carries the bank connection’s Reconnect and Unlink, Close or Reopen, Delete permanently, and recording a correction when your records and your bank differ. A phone browser’s Edit account sheet also changes the starting balance, whether the account is shared with your household and whether it is a favorite, which the mobile app does not. Linking an existing manual account to a bank, adding more accounts from a bank you already connected, reconnecting a connection you unlinked, and the check for an account you may already have added are offered on a PC or Mac only. Reordering accounts within a group works everywhere — on a PC or Mac by dragging, and in the mobile app and a phone browser from Reorder. The bank’s own latest figure beneath a linked account’s balance is shown in the mobile app only; on a PC or Mac and in a phone browser, open the account to see when it last synced.

Bills	Yes	Yes	Yes	Scheduled bills are a forecast. Tovari never posts one for you — you enter or skip each occurrence, unless your bank’s copy clearly matches and settles it. Entering one attaches it to a bank transaction that is already there, rather than duplicating it, only when that transaction’s description names the bill or its payee, the transaction is already assigned to the bill’s payee (or to a payee you confirmed for this bill), or its description names only a card network. A transaction whose description names nobody at all is recognised too, and so is a payment you marked as scheduled that the bank posted up to two weeks later: while the bank’s copy is still pending, the occurrence is flagged as having a payment in flight without asking; once posted, a payment Tovari recognises — by name, payee, card network, a nameless exact amount, or the date and amount you marked — settles your unpaid occurrences in order on its own when its amount is within the bill’s usual range — at the next sync, or as soon as you add or edit the bill or mark a payment — and sends a Bill auto-entered notification; Undo bill match reverses one for good. Otherwise Enter records a new row. To link a row like that instead of recording a second one, set that bank transaction’s payee to the bill’s payee, then press Enter. That may not work when the bill’s payee is generic (“Payment”), a card network, or used by another active bill on the account. If you would rather not change the payee, use Skip: it moves the schedule past the occurrence without adding anything to your register. Suggested recurring payments are offered in all three; scheduling one opens a pre-filled bill that is created only when you save it. Cash Flow — the projected balance chart, the You go negative on… warning, grouping, View options and one-time items — is in all three; on a phone the chart stays pinned and dragging it moves the list to that day.
Budget	Yes	Yes	Yes	The envelope budget, the month walk and the rollover work the same in all three. A phone browser and the app share the same Budget and Plan views; only a PC or Mac has the yearly plan.
Categories	Yes	No	No	Web only, on a PC or Mac. Renaming a category, moving it between sections, changing its icon or colour, and deleting one all need the PC or Mac layout. Categories you already have are usable everywhere, and you can still create a one-off category on a phone.
Dashboard	Yes	Yes	Yes	Each version shows a different set of cards. The PC or Mac layout shows the most — your spending by category and by payee, your savings goals, account balances and watched categories, alongside Net Worth and your income, budgeted and spent totals. The phone browser and the mobile app share the same top half: Home as the title, your greeting, the Safe to Spend band with expected in, expected out and a per-day figure, Breakdown › for the account-by-account view, a Budgeted, Spent and Left strip, and the cards for connecting your first account or setting up a budget. Below that, both show the same cards in order: watched budget categories (up to five, chosen and reordered from Choose which categories show here), the balance projection, favorite accounts, Coming up with Enter and Skip on a swipe, and recent activity with See all transactions; both headers carry Search. The Coming up swipe is iPhone-only in the app but works in any phone browser. In both, tapping a recent-activity row opens that account’s register.

In each, the assistant can write the report for you to confirm, and a plain form is always there, even when the assistant is not.

Help chat	Yes	Yes	Yes	Answers how-to questions from this documentation, offers to take you to the right screen, and can write up a bug or suggestion for you to confirm. It has no access to your accounts or balances, and it only discusses Tovari. On a PC or Mac it opens as a panel from the Ask Tovari button in the bottom-right corner; on a phone it opens as a sheet, from the header help control on the main screens in a phone browser and in the mobile app. In both, the header control offers Ask about this screen and Documentation — on a PC or Mac the two are separate, the docs button sitting at the top of the dashboard beside the Review Center bell. The Go to… button appears only for screens the version you are on actually has — the Net Worth and Safe to Spend reports in the mobile app get the answer without the button.

Investments	Yes	Yes	Yes	Your connected investment accounts as one portfolio — what it is worth, how much of that is growth rather than money you put in, and what you hold. In a phone browser and in the mobile app it opens from the Investments card above the account groups on the Accounts screen, and reads the same: the portfolio value with You put in and Market gained, a chart you can drag a finger along, the period chips, the breakdown, your accounts and largest holdings, a Holdings screen with search and sort, and each investment account’s market value with its list of dated values. Grouping holdings by account is offered on a PC or Mac only. Each investment account’s tax treatment is set from the Account settings tab on a PC or Mac, and from the account’s Edit account sheet in the mobile app and in a phone browser.

Payees	Yes	Yes	Yes	The payee directory — matching rules, merging duplicates, default categories and applying one to past transactions — works in all three. On a phone it opens from Edit Payees when you add a one-time item in Cash Flow; a phone browser also has Payees in Settings. Picking or creating a payee while entering a transaction works everywhere.
Reports	Yes	Yes	Yes	The mobile app offers a subset of the reports: Net Worth and the Safe to Spend report are web only. In a phone browser, the five reports the app has — Spending by Category, Payee and Month, Cash Flow and Income vs Expenses — are laid out the way they are in the mobile app: the report name is the switcher, with three period chips and a filter sheet. Net Worth and Safe to Spend are in the same list and use the same phone layout, so a phone browser has all seven reports.

In the mobile app and in a phone browser it is called Alerts (from the menu at the top left, or the bell), with the same inbox: a card per queue and one for your notifications. Only the app has Face ID and in-app purchase; only a phone browser has two-factor, Profile, data export and View desktop site.

You can subscribe with a card on the web, or through the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) in the mobile app. A card subscription’s card, billing period, cancelling and resuming are managed in Billing in any web browser, including on a phone; an App Store or Google Play subscription is managed in that store, which a phone browser links to.
Transactions	Yes	Yes	Yes	The mobile app has the register’s features — selecting several rows, the projected balance, reconciling — except keyboard shortcuts, exporting to a spreadsheet and file import, which are on a PC or Mac. In a phone browser an account’s register matches the mobile app — including custom date ranges, the View you save, the Recurring detected band (dismiss with Undo, or schedule as a bill) and Reconcile account — but has no file import or export. The all-accounts Transactions screen opens from the Accounts card and from Home’s Search and See all transactions, as in the app, with the account filter, categorizing several rows at once and each upcoming bill’s balance on its own account. Adding and editing a transaction in a phone browser works as in the app: one amount where a minus sign means money out, the payee, date, note, cleared status and a searchable category; a date after today saves a bill, with a Repeats choice. Adding from Home’s + lets you pick the account, starting with the register you last opened, then your first favorite, then your first account. When you edit, you can link a transaction as a transfer, make it recurring in three steps, undo a bill match, or delete it — Undo puts a deleted transaction back, though not both sides of a transfer. A phone browser can also unlink a transfer, which the app does not offer in the register. An upcoming bill opens the app’s This occurrence sheet; its Edit series opens the bill editor. No version has a sort control: the newest transactions are always first.

What this page does not list

Tovari also contains internal building blocks — shared navigation chrome, reference data and similar plumbing — that no one uses directly. Those are left off this page. If something you can actually see and use in Tovari is missing here, that is a gap in this page; please tell us.

How this page is kept accurate

This page is updated whenever a feature gains or loses a platform, in the same change that ships that work. It is reviewed by hand, because whether something exists on a phone is a judgement about what a person can do, not something a script can read off the code.

A test in the Tovari repository checks that every documented feature has a row here, so a new feature cannot quietly ship without appearing on this page.
