Tovari is a personal budgeting app, and Tovari is a product of Tovari Financial — the assumed name (DBA) of Ewing Technology Partners, LLC ("we," "our," "us"), a Texas limited liability company. We present the product to you as "Tovari" in most places and as "Tovari Financial" in others; both names mean the same product from the same company, and this policy covers it under either name.
When we say the "Services," we mean Tovari together with everything we provide around it: our marketing website at tovarifinancial.com, the Tovari web application at app.usetovari.com, and our mobile apps — whether used in a web browser or on a mobile device.
This policy applies to visitors to our website, people who ask us to notify them about a product or platform we have not released yet, and account holders who use the Services. It describes our own handling of your information. Ewing Technology Partners, LLC (DBA Tovari Financial) is the business responsible for — the controller of — the personal information described here. Your use of the Services is also governed by our Terms of Use.
Our guiding principle is to collect only what we need to run the Services. In practice:
When you create an account, we ask for identifying information such as your name and email address. We use it to create and secure your account, to send you essential product and service messages, and — only if you opt in — to send product updates. If you sign in with Google or with Apple, we receive basic profile information (such as your name and email) from that provider to create your account. Authentication is handled through Amazon Cognito.
Tovari is a budgeting tool, so with your permission we collect financial information needed to show you your money. When you link a bank or card account, we receive — through our data provider Plaid (see below) — information such as your account names and types, balances, and transaction history (dates, amounts, and merchant/description text). You may also enter transactions manually or import them from CSV, OFX, or QFX files. We store this content so the Services work as intended: to show your register, calculate balances and budgets, and tell you what is safe to spend.
We do not collect or store your bank username or password. Those credentials go directly to Plaid; we never see them.
When you use the Services we log technical information such as your IP address and basic device or browser details, and we record account access for security and fraud-prevention purposes. We retain this login data for as long as your account is active.
Our marketing website currently uses no third-party analytics or advertising trackers. If you ask us to notify you about something we have not released yet — for example by joining a waitlist — we store the information you provide (such as your email address) so we can contact you about it. See our Cookie Policy for details on cookies and local storage.
When you email us with a question or for help, we keep that correspondence, including your email address, so we have a history to reference if you reach out again. We also keep information you volunteer, such as written responses to surveys.
We use Plaid Inc. ("Plaid") to connect Tovari to your financial institutions. By linking an account, you authorize us to access and use your financial data through Plaid, and you agree that Plaid may collect, use, and store your information in accordance with the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. Your bank credentials are provided directly to Plaid and are not shared with us. You can disconnect a linked institution at any time from within the app, which stops future data collection for that connection.
To save you time, Tovari can automatically suggest a category and payee for your transactions. Some of this categorization uses rules and a merchant dictionary; some may use an artificial- intelligence model (provided through Amazon Web Services) that processes transaction details such as the merchant description and amount to suggest a category. These suggestions are aids — you can review and change any category, and we do not use this processing to make legally or similarly significant decisions about you. We do not use your financial data to train third-party AI models.
To provide the Services you've requested. We use a small number of third-party subprocessors to operate Tovari (listed below). They may process your information only to provide services to us and are bound to protect it.
At your direction. We disclose information to third parties like Plaid when you choose to connect an account or otherwise instruct us to.
Limited human access. None of our staff looks at your financial content except for limited purposes with your permission — for example, if you ask for help with a support issue, or if an error requires manual intervention to fix. We may also access data where required to respond to legal process.
Aggregated and de-identified data. We may aggregate or de-identify information so it no longer identifies you, and use it for any purpose, such as improving the Services.
When required by law. We are a U.S. company and store data in the U.S. If we are compelled by valid legal process — such as a warrant, subpoena, or court order — we may be required to disclose information. Our policy is to notify affected users before disclosing their data unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.
Business transfers. If Ewing Technology Partners, LLC is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we will notify you before your personal information is transferred or becomes subject to a different privacy policy. A change to the name or assumed name under which the Services are offered is not, by itself, such a transfer.
We rely on these third parties to run the Services. Each processes only what it needs to:
| Subprocessor | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Cloud hosting, database, storage, and AI categorization (all U.S. regions) |
| Amazon Cognito | Account sign-up, sign-in, and authentication |
| Plaid Inc. | Secure connections to your banks and retrieval of account/transaction data |
| Google (Sign-in) | Optional "Sign in with Google" authentication |
We strive to offer the same core data rights to all users, regardless of where they live:
Many of these can be exercised by signing in and updating your account. To make any other request, email us at privacy@tovarifinancial.com. We may need to verify your identity (for example, by confirming your name and email) before responding.
All data is encrypted in transit using SSL/TLS. Data is encrypted at rest, and access is scoped so that your data is isolated from other customers' data at the database level (row-level security). Backups are encrypted. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work hard to protect your information and to limit who and what can access it.
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. If you close your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal content within 60 days, except where we must retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before being overwritten.
The Services are operated in the United States, and your information is stored in the U.S. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you additional rights, and requires us to disclose the categories of personal information we collect and how we use them. We collect the categories described in "What we collect and why" above — including identifiers, financial information, internet/device activity, and information you provide — and use them to provide and improve the Services, communicate with you, ensure security, and comply with law. We do not "sell" or "share" your personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months. You have the right to know, access, correct, and delete your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these, contact us at privacy@tovarifinancial.com.
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our practices or for legal reasons. When we make a significant change, we will update the date at the top of this page. Questions, comments, or concerns about this policy or your data? Email us at privacy@tovarifinancial.com and we'll be glad to help.
